Coaching fees are a common concern and question I get a lot. I know what it's like to discover coaching and to get excited about the possibility of working with someone, then finding out you could never afford to go. I also know the power coaching has to transform lives. I am committed to making sure as many people as possible can afford coaching if they want to make the commitment to do it.

Many coaches do not list their prices on their web sites.  There are good and bad reasons for this.  The biggest reason to not list prices on a website is because coaches want the opportunity to talk to you first about the benefits of coaching and “sell you” on the cost once you are sitting in the office.

But, as a consumer, it frustrates me no end when I go online to get some simple information only to be foiled by an incomplete web site. I believe in complete transparency when it comes to my prices. However, I do want the chance to talk to you before you decide you can't afford coaching based on what you read here.

My belief is that you’ve found me and my particular site for a reason, and that you have arrived at a place in your life and career where you realize you’ve got to make a change. You realize that the “Good, Fast, and Cheap” model likely doesn’t apply to coaching either. Have you heard this? For any product or service, you can only have 2 of the 3 at one time, never all three at once.  So if you want something Good and Fast, it won’t be Cheap. If you want something Fast and Cheap, it won’t be Good. And if you want something Cheap but still Good, it sure won’t come Fast!

I have found that coaching isn’t just good – it’s great! And there isn’t any faster method to create change than coaching, at least not that I know of!

How much do you charge for a session?

I no longer offer single, one-time-only sessions, or what I previously called “pay as you go.”  A client might purchase one session every 4-6 weeks and see me “as needed.”  I found that clients on these plans did not make the progress they hoped to make and ended up discouraged and disappointed.

I have revamped my package offerings over the years based on my experiences with clients. I previously offered one and two month coaching packages. While coaching does work quickly, it is not an overnight change. A minimum three-month commitment to coaching is now expected.  I now offer three methods to work with me: individual, private sessions; a coaching group for aspiring executives; and a 3-day weekend retreat filled with all my best workshops and change management exercises.

Read about these packages below, and we can discuss your investment in coaching at either our no-cost 30-minute introduction session by phone or a discounted 60-minute introduction session held by phone or in person.  Schedule your session today.

How can I afford coaching?

Some coaches may tell you that investing in coaching is as simple as giving up a Starbucks coffee every day. It's not. It will be more of a sacrifice, and you may decide that investing in yourself and your future is not worth it.  I have worked with many, many clients who have dramatically increased their income from finding a new job; or improved their executive presence and communication skills so that they received sought-after promotions that came with a sizable raise in salary.

If you do decide it's worth it, you may need to consciously budget for coaching. Some clients put the cost of coaching on their credit card and work with their accountant to ensure they can deduct this as a job search expense on their taxes. I do offer payment plans and the ability to spread out your payments over a longer period of time.  In addition, I offer substantial discounts for clients who pay in full for their coaching or who pay for their package at their introduction session.  There is an even bigger discount if you pay the same day and pay in full.

If you are ready to make the commitment to change your life and reach your goals - and nothing you've done on your own has worked so far - I can tell you coaching will make a dramatic difference in the way your life unfolds going forward.

Do you provide any coaching to people who can't afford to pay anything?

I do believe in giving back to the community and participating in active "tithing." Tithing is most commonly thought of as donating 10 percent of your gross income to the people and places that feed you spiritually. It can also involve donating your time and talents to causes you believe in. For example, I am a volunteer coach for the organization,  Women For Change Coaching Community, which provides 12 free coaching sessions to women who earn less than $40,000 a year, I was deeply touched by a review sent to Women For Change from one of my clients in that program.  Read that review here.

In my own practice, I decided to devote 10 percent of my appointment slots to provide coaching to people who can't afford it. That equals about six slots per week. I make this determination on a case by case basis.

However, that said, it is extremely rare for me to not charge anything for a session.  This is my living, and I believe I am providing a valuable service that deserves to be reimbursed fairly.  I have found that clients who don't pay anything for a service are not as invested in their own growth.  It's important to have "skin in the game." Again, we will have a frank discussion if you believe that you truly can't afford coaching. If you are excited about coaching and the prospect of changing your future, but you've fallen on hard times through no fault of your own (or maybe it's a little bit your fault - believe me, I've been there!), then let's talk!

Are there other ways to get coaching without paying for private sessions?

My workshops are an excellent way to get some of the benefits of coaching at a reduced cost. I do offer limited group coaching options on Thursday evenings. Read more about these options here.

In addition, I am the organizer of a Meetup group that meets in Indianapolis called the Central Indiana Career Explorers Club, meant for people who are exploring other jobs, companies or industries in their career path. I bring in speakers each month to talk about their jobs and how your job might fit into their particular company or industry.  RSVP using the link above to get updates about these meetings.

For clients who wish for a more economical option for coaching can take advantage of coaching package two.  Coaching groups can be a very effective way to experience the power of coaching in a group setting, and allows each participant to benefit from the coaching others receive during the sessions.  You'll start with a private discovery session with me by phone to ensure you get started on the best path possible. I offer four group coaching sessions per month and you can attend as many as you want.  Plus for each month you are in a group, you can schedule a private coaching call with me to reinforce the learning and growth you're experiencing in the group.  I offer significant discounts for those who sign up for 2 and 3 months of group coaching.

Coaching package Three is the chance to experience as much career coaching as possible in a short amount of time - three days to be exact.  This weekend retreat was borne out of my previous "Strategy: You" workshops, a series of 4 workshops that have now been retooled and consolidated into a three-day format. Plus I have added many more activities and exercises - both group and personal - all designed to deepen your learning and growth.  This energizing and interactive weekend starts out on Friday evening, runs all day Saturday until 4 pm, and wraps up Sunday morning. All breakfasts and lunches are provided as well as snacks throughout the day to keep you fresh and engaged. I have designed this retreat so you will receive one-on-one attention from me during a private strategy session during the weekend.  We'll take that time to ensure that the goals you identified during the included Discovery session we'll have prior to the weekend are being addressed.  Then to help you continue to grow after the weekend is done, you'll have the chance to schedule 2 coaching phone calls with me drug in the two months following the retreat. As a bonus, you can attend as many coaching groups as you like during any one-month period following the retreat.

So, why choose Drew Carey?

So why should you trust me to be your coach? There are hundreds of coaching programs out there....some very good, and some, well, really bad. They range from associate degree programs with established universities to weekend seminars in San Diego or 5 hour online training programs. I encourage you to visit the Erickson College web site to learn more about the school I attended. I received an extraordinarily strong education in coaching. In fact, the final two modules I took were taught by internationally recognized coach trainer, Marilyn Atkinson, PhD, the founder of Erickson College. She is a clinical psychologist who worked with the leading minds in psychology in the 1970s. She was instrumental in integrating the concepts of solution-focused therapy and Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) and applying them to the highly effective coaching method called Solution-Focused Coaching.

It's very important for you to feel comfortable working with me, so I offer a free first session for us to get to know each other. You'll have the chance to ask me any questions you want, and I will take you through a mini coaching session so you can see how I coach. I come from a corporate background, so my approach tends to be more practical and pragmatic. My coaching style has been described as grounded, easy-going, caring, supportive, straightforward, compassionate.
